“If I were you.” The words rung in Celeste’s ears. They were the words she had heard so many times, each time they undermined her integrity, her self-worth and her confidence. What ever she did it never stood up to the ‘If I were you’ author.
She had spent her whole life trying to live up to Mrs Perfect and the truth was she never would. As long as she lived, these words would ring in her ears. Even now when the author was dead, she still had a reminder, inscribed in the grave stone were the undermining words, in gilt.

This is so powerful. Brilliantly simple in the way it will possibly resonate with many readers, but as short as this is, you kept the best for the very last word. The play on guilt is sublime. I love it.

Thanks Shaun I wondered if anyone would pick up on it. I was going to put it in the middle of the sentence but thought it would be so powerful. X
